Fort Collins Colorado Facts and Information
Fort. Collins  is located 60 miles North of Denver along the I-25 corridor. The Ft Collins 2000 census stated a population of 118,848. The estimate in 2002 by the city was 126,848 so now conservative estimates are approximately 130,000. Ft Collins is the center of Larimer County. Larimer County had a population of 251,000 in 2000. Conservative estimates are now over 300,000. These figures change on a weekly basis as Fort Collins and the entire Northern Colorado area is one of the fastest growing areas in America. Fort Collins' growth area has long been a bone of contention between growth advocates and no growth advocates.

Therefore the areas just outside Fort Collins like Timnath, Wellington, Windsor and the rural areas as far east as Eaton Colorado have also experienced large growth and population spurts.

Ft Collins the third largest city in Colorado is known as "The Choice City". The city is the home of the main campus of Colorado State University with an enrollment near 25,000 resident students. CSU is nationally known for their Veterinarian Medicine School as well as Agriculture, Forestry and Engineering. The university and the city is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. CSU has a mountain campus which has a research division of the CDC as well as other facilities including their football stadium.

Just behind the first ridge of rock outcropping west of the campus and city is the large body of water called Horsetooth Reservoir. Much of the water stored here comes from the Big Thompson water project which moves water from the western slope to the eastern cities and farm fields. It is these projects that allows the citizens to be a "Tree City USA" There are thousands and thousands of trees which have been planted throughout the city and makes Fort Collins an oasis in the near desert of eastern Colorado.

Colorado is now the 5th fastest growing state in the nation. The Fort Collins-Loveland and surrounding area is the 9th fastest growing MSA in the nation. This same area boasts the 4th strongest economy in the U.S. The job and employment market is also good being the second largest in Colorado.

Much of the employment is due to the hundreds of small service and tech companies located here. The large companies and the university lead the large employers. Some of the more recognizable names are Avago, HP, Kodak, Intel, AMD and Budweiser.

Fort Collins has a population estimated at 137,000 as of 2005. These people live in a 50 square mile area in 55,623 housing units. Residents here are highly educated with 48.5 percent having completed four years or more of college.

Within seven miles of Fort Collins are 177,000 people and within 10 miles there are 240,000. The Fort Collins and Loveland areas are an economic hub for a four state area including Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and of course Northern Colorado.

More and more Loveland and Fort Collins are becoming one shopping and economic areas with residents of both cities moving back and forth with ease.
